(of worship) appointed for mankind was that in Bakka (Mecca), full
of blessing, and guidance for all people." [Qur'an

"And now verily We shall make you turn
(in prayer) toward a Qibla which is dear to you. So turn your face
toward the Inviolable Place of Worship (the Kaaba of Makkah)."

 Even
today in Makkah the 5,400 years old ritual is being practised
with full enthusiasm. The holy Kaaba is covered with new kiswa
(cover) every year on the 10th Dhu Al Hijjah, which coincides
with Haj. It was a custom started by the Prophet Ismail (Pubh)
4000 years before the origin of Islam.

 Throughout
Islamic history, it has been considered a great honour to
be able to perform a service to the Kaabh, in the Sacred
Mosque in Makkah. One of these services, performed by both
kings and commoners, is to be able to contribute towards
the covering of the Ka'aba with the Kiswa - its drape.
