UP to bring in new education system Lucknow, January 17, 2010 Now, students up to class eight, in schools run by the Basic Education Council, have a reason to cheer as the government has decided to bring in a new system so that they no longer fail in exams. The UP government has decided to introduce continuous and comprehensive evaluation based examination system, wherein students up to class 8 will not be detained on the basis of marks secured, a senior official said here. An order to introduce the new examination system has been issued by additional state project director of Sarv Shiksha Abhiyaam Ashok Ganguly. There would be continuous assessment of a student’s performance throughout the year, he said. “Though the students will be required to appear in the examination four times in an academic year, there will be no system of pass or fail,” he said. Evaluation of a student will be done on the basis of two unit tests, half-yearly and annual examinations of 100 marks. “The examination pattern will include written and oral tests,” Mr. Ganguly said. The model question paper of these examinations will be prepared by State Council for Education Research and Training, he added.
