New theory test for driving licence in DubaiThe new test by RTA includes 35 questions and prospective drivers will have to pass it as a first step to acquiring a driving licence in Dubai
Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Tuesday launched a new theory test for prospective drivers which will replace the traffic sign test. The new test includes 35 questions and prospective drivers will have to pass it as a first step to acquiring a driving licence in Dubai. "This test is more comprehensive and will test the students not just on their knowledge and understanding of road signs, but how to handle road hazards and guidelines on safe driving," Behroozian said. The examination is available in Arabic, English and Urdu. The RTA is also considering adding more languages in future. Appointment system The RTA has also introduced an appointment system for road tests for applicants seeking driver's licence. The appointments system will help candidates save time, said Ahmad Hashim Behroozian, CEO of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) Licensing Agency, during a press conference on Tuesday. "Earlier, students were asked to come by the batch and wait all day for their road test. The new appointment system will simplify the process, and we wish to respect the customer's time and do not want to make him or her wait all day," he said. "A student can take an appointment for his exam through the five driving centres," Behroozian said adding that "more methods will be added by February or March to book an appointment for the tests through the RTA website or by calling the toll free number 800 9090". First step Students who score over 65 per cent in the new theory test will pass the test and will be eligible for the road test, the RTA official said. This was part of the revamp of the driver's test procedures launched on Tuesday by RTA. The new theory test will replace the previous traffic sign test, said the official. The new test, which will have 35 questions, will be required as the first step in acquiring a driver's licence in Dubai and will be available in all five driving centres. "This test is more comprehensive and will test the students, not just their knowledge and understanding of road signs, but how to handle road hazards and guidelines on safe driving," Behroozian said. The examination is available in three languages, Arabic, English and Urdu. The RTA is, however, considering more languages to be added in the near future. "We understand the need for more languages, especially with the great diversity in the UAE population. More languages will hopefully be added ... The examination is also available for the illiterate by providing the questions in voice-over in three languages as well," said Behroozian. http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/general/new-theory-test-for-driving-licence-in-dubai-1.744736 |
