According to the Indian embassy, six other landmarks will be lit up in the tricolour this evening. Indian ambassador to the UAE Navdeep Singh Suri tweeted out a photo of the Adnoc building lit up with the colours of the Indian flag.
Six other major landmarks in Abu Dhabi will be lit up in tricolour this evening in honourof the Indian-Republic Day, Indian embassy has confirmed. Suri said the "rare, spontaneous and special gesture" by the UAE government is a hallmark of the strong ties between India and the UAE. "If we need a visual confirmation of the state of the UAE-India relationship, we will see this evening. Seven prominent public buildings in Abu Dhabi will be carrying the India tri-colour this evening," said Suri addressing the Indian community this morning who gathered at the embassy premises to celebrate their country's 70th Republic Day. The day marks the anniversary of India adopting its constitution on January 26, 1950. Patriotic fervour ran high as the ambassador hoisted the national flag followed by the chanting of 'Jai Hind' and rendition of the national song. Suri also read out the speech of Indian President's Republic Day speech, which emphasized India's pluralism and inclusiveness.
Commenting on the UAE announcing 2019 as the Year of Tolerance, Suri said Indian community will celebrate the value of tolerance as "it runs deeply in India since ancient times." School children sang patriotic songs and performed dance programmes at the embassy auditorium. The ambassador also exhorted blue collar workers, who had gathered at the embassy, to approach the embassy officials when they face difficulties. "It is your right to get paid every month. If you have any salary issues, please don't wait for weeks or months to inform us. This is your embassy, and we are here to help you." The ambassador also unveiled the Charkha at the embassy foyer in the presence of designer Sunaina Suneja and T.V. Damodaran, President of the Gandhi Sahitya Vedi.
The embassy will also be a hosting a republic day special reception on Saturday evening at the Jumeriah Etihad towers which will be attended by ministers and high-level officials. |
